Inclusive Swim Instruction: Adapted Aquatics Certification Program
Why Our Training Programs Matter
Our Adapted Aquatics Certification program prepares instructors to teach swimming and water safety to individuals with disabilities in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment. This training plays a vital role in promoting community safety and ensuring access to aquatic education for all. In partnership with the Starfish Aquatics Institute, the program meets the highest standards in adaptive swim instruction, combining expert guidance with hands-on experience and inclusive teaching strategies.
Facilities interested in hosting a one-day practicum must be ADA-compliant, have a clean, warm-water pool with a working lift, and a quiet indoor space for instruction. You'll need to provide around four hours of pool time and help recruit local individuals with disabilities to participate in the in-water portion. Assistance with marketing is also appreciated. If you meet these requirements and want to bring this valuable training to your community, contact us at [email protected].
Skills That Explore the Deep
The Adapted Aquatics Certification program is designed to equip instructors with the skills and confidence to teach individuals with physical, developmental, sensory, or cognitive disabilities how to swim and stay safe around water. This hands-on training emphasizes the importance of adapting techniques to meet the unique needs of each swimmer, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
Participants will develop core competencies in assessing abilities, modifying swim strokes, using adaptive equipment, and creating individualized lesson plans. The program also covers communication strategies, behavior management, and safety protocols tailored to various disabilities. Through in-water practicum sessions and real-world scenarios, instructors gain valuable experience and practical tools they can apply immediately.
Training is applicable across a variety of aquatic environments, including pools, beaches, and water parks. Whether you're working in a community center, therapeutic facility, or recreational setting, the skills you gain through this certification will prepare you to create meaningful, safe, and fun aquatic experiences for swimmers of all abilities—making a lasting impact on both individuals and communities.
